REGARD CELEBRATES KINO'S TENTH ANNIVERSARY

VOX presents KINO KABARET › Friday, March 13 › 10 PM › Artis Resto Lounge
Saturday, March 14 › 9:30 PM › Snow Screen

REGARD sur le court métrage au Saguenay is celebrating ten years of Kino with the Kino Kabaret, taking place during the Festival. Thanks to a collaboration with contemporary arts centre Séquence, who will be playing host to Kino Lab, participants will become "artists in residence" for 48 hours and will be challenged to create and produce short films. These films will make their debuts over two nights as part of the official program, with one projection on our outdoor Snow Screen.

WHAT IS KINO??
Kino was created in 1999 by filmmakers Christian Laurence and Jéricho Jeudy. Their goal: to give all amateur filmmakers the opportunity to show their short films to the public on a big screen, in the spirit of collaboration and inspiration. The Kino movement encourages small production teams with no budget to create short films, and since its inception has spread across the globe – there are now over 50 "Kino cells" around the world! In a totally non-competitive environment, the Kino collective, as their motto states, wants to show people that it's possible to "Do well with nothing, do better with little and do it now!"

AND WHAT IS A KINO KABARET???
One of the Kino movement's most original activities is, without a doubt, the Kino Kabarets. These Kabarets place individuals, be they amateurs or professionals, actors, camerapeople or just dreamers, in an environment where they can create and put their ideas into motion by experiencing the domino effect of a group dynamic. REGARD's Kino Kabaret is a unique, celebratory event that encourages the creation of original short films, filmed in Saguenay in collaboration with local artists. For the event, we've extended an open invitation to kinoïtes around the world as well as artists working in film, television and other areas of the industry to come to the Festival and participate in one of the two 48-hour sessions where they can actualize, direct and screen a short film.

Please note that the public is invited to observe the kinoïtes at work in the Kino Lab, located in Séquence's espace Michael Snow.

[Séquence] 132 Racine East - Chicoutimi, is a space that was specially-created as a location for the research, experimentation, and the creation, production, broadcasting and promotion of the visual arts, media arts and sound creation.
