Discussion with producers Roger Frappier, Stéphane Tanguay and Cédric Bourdeau
Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 AM, Café Cambio

Presented by Telefilm Canada
In this profession, dreams become reality, and ideas materialize from mental to physical. It's a risky profession in which art and money rub shoulders: it's the job of a producer. Without a producer, the artists' creations would never see the light of day. Producers have charisma, limitless energy and good management skills, and must be able to listen, recognize talent, and take risks in order to bring to light the films he or she believes in. This production workshop is geared towards directors, producers and film students, and will allow them to learn more about full-length film production as well as prepare them to make the transition from short films to full-length films.

Featured producers:

Roger Frappier has been producing films for over 25 years, and is the only producer to have been presented with three Bobine d’or awards for most box office receipts. He has also won four Genies for Best Canadian Film. Frappier founded his production company, Max Films, in 1986 and was one of 11 producers across the globe to be honoured at the prestigious Festival de Cannes (1998). He has produced such memorable works as Denys Arcand's Le Déclin de l'empire américain (1986), Denis Villeneuve's Maelström (2000), and Jean-François Pouliot's La grande séduction (2003). With his fine-tuned ability to recognize new talent, Roger Frappier has also produced full-length films for several first-time artists, including Lyne Charlebois (Borderline, 2007). His latest production, Dédé à travers les brumes, of director Jean-Philippe Duval (about the life of Colocs singer Dédé Fortin), will hit theatres in 2009.

The producers Stéphane Tanguay and Cédric Bourdeau of Kinesis Productions will also take part to the workshop. After 4 years, 6 shorts films, 3 documentaries and one full-length film, they represent the emerging producers that are often unknown by the public and as well as the professionals of the industry.

Host: Jean Hamel from the Institut national de l’image et du son (INIS)
